Since childhood, I have been encouraged to lead an active lifestyle. Thanks to my parents, I was able to try almost any kind of activity as a kid. Sports, dancing, arts, music, you name it - I have done it. I quickly realised what I like and what I am good at. Basically anything that involves my hands and a bit of creativity. I spent my school years by creating all types of jewellery for myself, family and friends. (I still own some of them, might do giveaway later for the best patient of the year!)
Anyway, when we were pressured to pick an university after high shool, I decided I want to become a dental technician, unleash my creativity and work with my hands finally. I have always been fascinated by the world of dentistry but never had the courage to become a dentist and drill and pull out teeth. But my dentist at the time had a different plan.
On my regular checkup, he asked me about my studies so I said proudly I am going to try a dental technician school. And he said "why don't you try a dental hygiene?" I replied: "what is that, it sounds weird..".
I went home, googled dental hygienist and got absolutely intrigued by it.
2015 - 2018
I studied back home in Czech republic. During studies, when we had two months of summer holidays, I decided to go to Manchester to work and make some money for the following academic year. And let me tell you, I fell in love. I mean, first, I did not understand a word of what people say. Manchester accent made it impossible. And universe knows how shy I was to speak. But three months is long enough time to get used to and start to speak with your work colleagues finally.
I came back home and was motivated to start studying English in my free time. I read my first book in English (Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, still one of my favourites, highly recommended). I started watching movies in English and already planted a seed in my mind - how would it feel to move to the UK after studies?
The next summer, I spent one month in Granada, Spain as a part of internship. I was in a beautiful private dental practice where I had a chance to see all dental professionals working together under one roof. After Spain, I spent another summer holidays in the UK, but this time London. And that was it, my planted seed grew into a plan. Plan to move to the UK after I finish university.
One of the requirements from the GDC to get registered was having one year working experience in the country I studied. So I worked in a beautiful private practice in Brno, Czech republic as a dental hygienist. (2018-2019)
After that I packed two suitcases and moved to London. It took me a long time to get registered (2021), it is not an easy process. I had to find a practice who would be able to supervise me for some time and I stayed there since then (2020-present). It is another beautiful private practice with lovely people where work does not feel like work but relaxation and fun. You can get in touch with me and meet me there, all details are in "where to find me".
