Scaling is a standard procedure in every dental hygiene appointment. Ultrasonic scaler, hand scaler and curettes can be used. They break down hardened plaque - calculus - from the surface of a tooth, under gums and in between the teeth.

Calculus needs to be removed on a regular basis. Even though it is hard, it is still full of living bacteria and it pushes your gums down, which leads to exposed roots. Its is also one of the main reasons why people start having periodontal disease. Calculus build up might lead to tooth mobility and tooth loss.

Air polishing is a technology that uses a mixture of a powder, water and air. It is sprayed on teeth and it gently removes anything that is soft - stains, plaque, bacteria, initial soft calculus. 

It leaves the teeth with the most satysfying feeling of smoothness and cleanliness.

The water and air pressure helps to push the powder into all the pits and fissures as well as in between the teeth, where traditional prophy paste cannot get. This is why it is preferred.

Stain removal is not only a cosmetic procedure but more importantly preventative. Stains feel a bit rough on teeth and so it is difficult to differentiate if the teeth are brushed properly or if there is still a plaque on them.

Teeth whitening needs to be always recommended by a dentist prior the procedure.

Home whitening

Impressions are taken first. We make your personalised trays from them that fits your teeth perfectly. You whiten over night for two weeks or any other period based on the results.

Office whitening

Your teeth will be brightened in the practice during two hour appointment using a stronger gel and a speacial light to speed up the process.

Combination whitening

The most effective teeth whitening for the brightest results combines these two techniques together.

Any kid can visit dental hygienist since the first tooth appears. This builds trust and comfort in dental environment that will pay off later in life.

Dental hygiene is safe during pregnancy. A change in hormones might affect oral health and any potentional inflammation gets exaggerated. This is why some women have no problems whatsoever and other loose their teeth.

Kids with deep fissures might be more --- to have decays. For this reason, they can be advised for fissure sealants. This is a non-invasive treatment where drilling is not involved. Fissures are filled with a material slowly releasing Fluoride and protecting the tooth from cavities.

Dental hygiene with braces is absolutely safe for glued brackets or attachments on your teeth. It is actually recommended to do the professional clean more frequently with braces as it is very difficult to clean everywhere properly. I usually recommend the next appointment in 3-4 months.

 Same as fixed orthodontic braces, any crowns, fillings, bridges, veneers or implants are absolutely fine with instruments used during dental hygiene. Some restorations need extra care at home and you will get advices tailored to your needs.
